The Making Process
Every Emma Nissim Designs piece begins with a commitment to sustainability and craftsmanship. From selecting eco-friendly fabrics to the final hand-printed detail, each step reflects care for both people and the planet.
Every Emma Nissim Designs piece begins long before it reaches your hands. The journey starts with sourcing fabrics that tread lightly on the earth, favoring organic cotton, linen, and other natural fibers grown without harmful chemicals. These materials are chosen not only for their reduced environmental impact but also for their breathable, lived-in feel that improves with wear. The studio works closely with suppliers who share a commitment to ethical labour practices, ensuring that every yard of cloth arrives with a clear conscience. This foundational step sets the tone for everything that follows, proving that beautiful clothing need not come at the expense of the planet or its people.
Once the fabrics arrive, the creative process unfolds in the studio with hand-printing and small-batch production techniques. Rather than mass manufacturing, each garment receives individual attention through block printing, screen printing, or hand-painted details that give every piece a unique character. The studio celebrates imperfection as a marker of authenticity, allowing the human hand to leave its subtle mark. This approach naturally limits waste, as items are produced in deliberate quantities rather than overflowing inventories. The result is clothing that carries a story, a visible record of the care and time invested by skilled artisans working with intention and pride.
Beyond the making process itself, Emma Nissim Designs operates with a broader vision of circularity and longevity. Each design is conceived as a wardrobe staple meant to be worn season after season, resisting the pull of fast-fashion trends. The brand encourages customers to care for their pieces thoughtfully, offering guidance on washing and repair to extend the life of every garment. When a piece has truly lived its life, the studio explores take-back and upcycling initiatives to keep materials in use rather than sending them to landfill. This closed-loop thinking reflects a deep respect for resources and a rejection of disposable culture.
The philosophy behind the making process extends into the community that surrounds the brand. Workshops and teaching sessions invite others to learn the techniques of hand-printing and sustainable design, spreading skills that empower individuals to make mindful choices about their own wardrobes. The studio values transparency, sharing behind-the-scenes glimpses of the production journey so customers understand exactly where and how their clothing is made. This openness builds trust and fosters a sense of connection between the maker and the wearer. Every stitch, print, and seam carries forward a commitment to craftsmanship, ethics, and joyful, conscious living.
Sourcing Sustainable Fabrics
We choose materials that feel good and do good. Our garments are made from:
- Tencel — soft, breathable, and derived from responsibly managed wood pulp.
- Organic Cotton — grown without synthetic pesticides, gentle on skin and soil.
- Bamboo — naturally renewable, with a silky drape and moisture-wicking properties.
Design & Pattern Cutting
Each silhouette is designed for versatility — pieces that move from yoga to the beach, from layering on a hike to relaxed everyday wear. Patterns are refined to minimise fabric waste while maintaining a flattering, comfortable fit.
Hand-Printing
This is where the magic happens. Every print is applied by hand in our London studio, making each garment subtly unique. The hand-printing process uses carefully selected, low-impact dyes that respect both the fabric and the environment.
Finishing & Quality Check
After printing, each piece is heat-set, washed, and inspected. We check every seam, hem, and print placement before a garment is ready to wear. The result is clothing that feels as good as it looks — and lasts.
